It is a kind of ursolic acid, also known as corylic acid.
- The physicochemical properties of corosolic acid are white amorphous powder (methanol), soluble in petroleum ether, benzene, chloroform, pyridine and other organic solvents, insoluble in water, soluble in hot ethanol, methanol. In anhydrous condition, it will react with strong acid (sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, perchloric acid), medium strong acid (trichloroacetic acid) or Lewis acid (zinc chloride, aluminum chloride, antimony trichloride) to produce color reaction or fluorescence. Corosolic acid is a kind of pentacyclic triterpenoids of α – geraniol type or ussane type. Its basic framework is the pentacyclic mother nucleus of polyhydrin. Corosolic acid can exist free or in the form of saponins in plants. In plants, it often coexists with its isomer hawthorn acid (2 α – hydroxyoleanolic acid), which has similar structure and chemical properties, and is difficult to separate.
